William Edwin TATE

William “Bill” Edwin Tate, age 77, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 28, 2015, in St. Louis, Missouri, the same day his brother passed, seven years ago. He was surrounded by his loving family and friends. Bill was born August 27, 1938, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Grace Nell (Payne) Tate-Martin and Clarence Marshall Tate. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1962 to1968. In 1963 and 1964 he was assigned to 1st Cavalry, HQS & HQ Battery, 6th Battalion, 82nd Artillery, Camp Pelham, Korea. He worked at Wood Stationery in St. Louis for several years and then at Boeing as a Tool Crib Attendant, from which he retired in 1998. Bill enjoyed photography and has many great photos displayed throughout his home. He loved to share his photos and was happy to supply copies to anyone who showed interest. Another hobby was his blue 1950 Chevy pickup for which he won many awards and trophies. That was his baby and was only driven on sunny, cloudless days. Bill was also talented on the steel guitar. He played at church for many years and enjoyed playing at home and with friends. Bill and his wife Leona loved to travel and visited many states and countries; there was hardly a place they could go with them without someone knowing them. Bill was preceded in death by his parents and by his brother Marshall Duane (Bud) Tate. He is survived by his dear sister Doris Nell Swift of St. Louis, MO. Bill was survived by his dear wife Leona and children Joyce (David) Coates, of White Hall, IL, Janet (Todd) Ralston of White Hall, IL and Rodney (Christy) Tate of Wright City, MO. He was also the best grandpa too, and is survived by, Jason, Eric, Jennifer, Tyler, Jeremy, Nicole, Ashley, Amanda, Ryan and Hunter and 14 great-grandchildren. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews, of which all were his favorite. Visitation and funeral will be held for Bill Sunday, November 1, 2015, at The Connecting Point Church, 6702 Keaton Corporate Parkway, O’Fallon, MO 63368; visitation from 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. with funeral service to follow at 4:00 p.m. Graveside with military honors will be Monday, November 2, 2015, 10:30 a.m. at Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery 2900 Sheridan Road, St. Louis, MO 63125. His wife Leona has requested that donations be made to their church in lieu of flowers. Donations in memory of Bill Tate may be through GoFund Me account or Connecting Point Church PayPal account.
