Thomas Glen Birkett, age 68 May 15, 1956 - February 27, 2025 Tom, the first of Bill and Edna Birkett’s two children was born in Portland, Oregon. Tom lived his childhood years in Seattle WA, Battle Creek MI, and then settled in St. Louis County, Missouri where he lived fully his adult life. Beloved husband of Kaye Birkett (Foster), for 23 wonderful years (10/12/2001). Dearest big brother to Cathy (Dale) Nordgaarden Loving father of Alex Birkett, Shelly (Eric)Traylor, Cathy Barnett, & Darlene (Michael)Starr Devoted Papa Tom to Sarah (Sam)Traylor-Robinson, Joshua Barnett, & Emma Barnett Dear Uncle to Shaun (Gail) Nordgaarden, Cari (Matt)Chandler, numerous great nieces, nephews and loving extended family. Devoted friend and Santa to all. Tom enjoyed life to the fullest. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service as mail carrier in 2011 after 35 years of service. He thoroughly enjoyed cooking and loved to plant and harvest from his yearly garden. If you were available to hear, he would share the growth and excitement of each seed sown. With his best friend Kaye at his side, he found joy, happiness, and great contentment at home or with family and friends. Tom always let you know you made a difference in his day and in his life! Tom - greatly loved and was loved greatly. Tom did not know a stranger and always had a story to tell! Tom’s stories made you laugh out loud and always reminded you to embrace life with a “No worries” care in the world. A couple of the sayings that seemed to be owned by Tom was “Everything happens for a reason”, or “I’m liv’n the dream.” These were not cliches to Tom, he truly believed it and wanted you to believe it too. Tom lived with this same love for life through his health issues over the past few years, and to him, each medical appointment included his personal medical team that would soon be uplifted from their worries and encouraged as they laughed out of the room (maybe sometimes, even shaking their head on the way.) This was the way of his last week of life on this earth, with close family and friends nearby to receive his contagious and positive influence. Those who know Tom, believe without a shadow of doubt, there’s new stories and laughter in Heaven, with surety of his presence in Christ. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society or the Salvation Army.
