Stephen Wesley HOBKIRK

Steve Hobkirk, age 64, died quietly at his home Sunday evening, surrounded by his loving wife, Linda, and daughter, Becky. Steve was born in Wood River IL on December 8th, 1953 to Charles E. and Virginia L. Hobkirk nee: Steward. Steve and Linda began their married life together on July 11, 1981. Steve not only took on the role of husband but also “instant” dad to 5 year old Rob. In 1982 they welcomed a daughter, Rebekah and in 1989 a son, Stephen James. Steve loved the outdoors. He especially enjoyed trout fishing and camping. Many memories with friends and family were made at Montauk State Park around a campfire or standing in the stream with a fishing rod in hand. Steve gained fame for calling in owls at the campground. He passed his love for the outdoors onto his kids and grandkids. While he personally did not ride a motorcycle, he was active with the St. Charles HOG chapter, supporting Linda and often accompanying group rides driving his truck and being the support vehicle. Steve spent over 30 years as a Controls Engineer. He was proud of his career accomplishments and would gladly share his knowledge with anyone who cared to listen. Most of all, Steve enjoyed spending time with friends and family. His love and loyalty to those he considered family (blood or not) was fierce. Those who knew him well know that debating...anything, was a sport to him. There are many great memories of card games, adventures across the country, campfires, BBQ and all sorts of gatherings just enjoying the people around him. Steve’s deep faith in Jesus showed in his everyday life and he touched many lives. Loving husband of Linda. Dear father of the late Robert (Ann) Hobbs, Rebekah Hobkirk, and the late Stephen James Hobkirk. Dear brother of Margaret (Dennis) Weber and Jackie (Scott) Kelly. Beloved brother-in-law of Ann (Tony) Fonod, Margie and the late Jim Gregory, Jan (Roger) Taveirne and Jay (Kim) Moeller. Dear Son in law of Nelda Windsor and the late Darrell Gregory. Devoted grandpa to Alyssa and Jonavon Buckley. Special friend of Dave (Doris) Radin and Uncle to many nieces and nephews.
