SCHORMAN, Vincent

Joseph Vincent Schorman, age 82, of St. Peters, Missouri died Tuesday evening, February 1, 2011 at his home. He was born September 20, 1928 in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of Joseph Henry and Ann Cloonan Schorman. Mr. Schorman was employed as a police officer with the St. Louis Police Department for 38 years, retiring in 1983 and was of the Catholic Faith. He served honorably with the United States Army during the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Eileen Ann Grelle Schorman; children, Paula Ann Schorman Brown, Joseph Vincent Shorman, Jr., and David Brian Schorman; step-children, Mary Colleen Stella and Ramond Timothy Grelle; sisters, Sr. Mary Annette Schorman (Sisters of St. Joseph Carondolet) and Florence Lowman; a brother, Robert Schorman and twelve grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Mary Cecilia Schorman Batson. A memorial mass in celebration of Joseph's life will be at 5 p.m. Saturday, February 12, 2011 at All Saints Catholic Church, St. Peters, Missouri; he had donated his body to St. Louis University School off Medicine. When I was a child, Dad liked to cook, we always ate well. He did the grocery shopping and he always took me along. One of my favorites was homemade pizza and his creation pimento olvies and chicken dish. Our home was small compared to our large back yard where Dad and I spent a lot of time together. He was real particular about everything and it showed--our yard was beautiful. He worked our butts off. One of his sayings was , "Hard work is good for you." He was right, but you couldn't convince me back then. Inside our home everything was very clean, neat and organized. Another saying was, "Everything has a place and there is a place for everything and cleanliness is next to godliness." His garage was immaculate and everything hung neatly and easy to find. He was the envy of the neighborhood! We had an old black '69 Malibu station wagon that my little brother, Dave, learned to drive. Dad let him sit on his lap when he was a little tike. It was also the car dad and I took to the 7-Eleven on Sunday morning for a paper and he had me drive home. I was scared to death, I'd never driven a "stick" before. Dad just smiled as I jerked out of the parking lot, but I knew he couldn't wait to get home. At Christmas he would take us to see the homes with lights that people entered to win a prize from the Post-Dispatch. Christmas was my favorite holiday. We always had a fire in our fireplace which was in our living room. The light on our real tree and the fire left a lasting impression, one I will never forget. As I got older, he and I would bet on football; it was only two-dollars, but it had to be a two-dollar bill. I have one ($2) Dad sent me with a little note that I saved. You would have thought I won a thousand dollars as excited as I got. It's just that Dad usually won. Checkers, dominoes and gin I took a beating but not many can beat me now--he taught me well! We played for hours when I would visit him and Ei at the lake. I thought my Dad was the happiest then. He was a City officer all his life and he couldn't wait to get away. So, he and Ei moved to the Lake of the Ozarks. They built a beautiful home where they spent their retirement and made great memories with family and friends. Before I forget, I'd like to share a few more of his sayings. "Never take a wooden nickel." " Wait (weight) broke the bridge." and the best one, I thought, was "It will never be noticed on a galloping horse." Auntie A said dad was like grandma when it came to sayings. Dad got them from Grandma, I got them from Dad and I guess I'll pas them on too. I'm so thankful for the time we had together. I learned so much from Dad and I will miss him, but his ways and his sayings will stay with me forever. Like the song Frank Sinatra sang, my Dad did it his way. Dad's first born, Paula Ann
