RIFFLE, Larry Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Stephen Larry Riffle April 17, 1945 - December 29, 2012 Age 67 years, 8 Months, 12 Days Mr. Riffle passed away early Saturday morning, December 29, 2012 at Sarcoxie Caring Center in Sarcoxie, Missouri. He was born at home on April 17, 1945 in Elsberry, Missouri; the son of Allie Thurmon and Ethyl D. Damron Riffle. He was united in marriage to Brenda S. Gilbert in Troy, Missouri on September 04, 1971. To this union the blessing of four children was given. Mr. Riffle was employed in and around the Elsberry area most of his life as a truck driver and general laborer; retiring early due to declining health. He enjoyed family dinners, cooking, reading and especially enjoyed traveling. Steve accepted the responsibility of duty to serve his country and entered into the US Army. He entered and graduated from the US Army Training Center in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. After graduation he was transferred to Ft. Gordon, Ga. While there, he successfully completed training at the U.S. Army Southeastern Signal School. He left the states and started tour in Seoul, Korea. Stephen was honorably discharged from the reserves in July, 1970. Until his health began to fail he faithfully attended the Whiteside Holiness Church in Whiteside, Missouri, where he enjoyed keeping the grounds mowed and weeded for several years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Allie and Ethyl Riffle. Three brothers: Rodney, Irvin and John Riffle. Two sisters: Fae Cox and Patricia Stewart. Three sister-in-laws: Virginia, Gertrude and Lelia Riffle and an infant grandson Mikal Riffle. Survivors include: his wife, Brenda and their children, Ragina Miller and her husband Ed of Sarcoxie, MO. Angela Elmore and her husband Duane of Scammon, KS. Melisa Filsinger and her husband Ronnie of Silex, MO. Stephen LaScott Riffle of Sarcoxie, MO. Twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. One brother, Homer Riffle of Bowling Green, MO. Two sister-in-laws Berneta Riffle of Foley, MO. Eunice Riffle of Lake St. Louis, MO. Pall Bearers: Gilbert Riffle, Homer Riffle, Jr (Steve's best man at wedding), Michael Riffle, Jerry Jones, Randy Jones, Samuel Elmore, Andrew Elmore and Brandon Denbeck. Visitation for Mr. Riffle will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Whiteside Holiness Church, Whiteside, Missouri. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at the church. Interment will follow at Elsberry City Cemetery, Elsberry, Missouri with full military honors.
