Joan Marie RUNGE

On Monday, May 27, 2024, Joan Marie Runge, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed away. She was eighty-one. Born in 1942 in Florissant, Missouri to Paul and Marie Meyer, Joan was in the first graduating class at St. Tomas Aquinas High School. She later met Bill Runge and on June 16, 1962, they married. Joan and Bill remained together for 62 years until she passed. Joan and Bill had two sons, Bill Jr., and Steve. Bill Jr. and Steve married wonderful women and together they provided Joan and Bill with seven grandchildren and four great grandchildren. Joan was from a large family; she was the second oldest of nine children. As the oldest sister, Joan had the responsibility of helping to raise her younger siblings, which she did not love, but she did love her brothers and sisters. Joan is predeceased by her beloved parents, Paul, and Marie, and by her siblings, Jerry, and Kathy. She is survived by Larry, Marvin, Mary, Ruth, John, and Judy. Joan spent thirty years as a Cosmetologist working in several beauty shops. She loved the friends she made throughout those years. Joan loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, having many happy times celebrating life events and holidays. Joan loved talking and laughing with her brothers and sisters; they laughed a lot. She loved the Memorial Day trips with them to Meyer’s Farm. Joan also loved to travel, taking many trips around the country with her travel ladies. Her hobby was crafting. Over the years she tried out several different crafts, the latest being designing and producing silver jewelry. She made many beautiful pieces. The logo for her jewelry is the hummingbird; Joan loved to watch them flying about. There are legends that say when a Cardinal bird is nearby, it is a sign that our departed loved ones are still with us, but for Joan’s family it will be a hummingbird. There will be a funeral mass on Monday, June 3 at 10:00 am at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. 601 N. 4th St., St. Charles, MO 63301. The mass will be followed by a procession to St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hazelwood, MO.
