Durwood Alan VANDIVER

Durwood Alan "Al" Vandiver passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025, following a courageous battle with colon cancer. He approached life's final chapter with the same grace, dignity, and humor that characterized his entire journey. Al leaves behind a legacy of love through his devoted wife, Cindy; his cherished grandchildren, Iris and Lucas; his great-grandson, Apollo; and his siblings, Janet, Dennis, and Mary. Passing before him were his beloved daughter Sarah, his parents Durwood and Euretta, and his steadfast friend Steve DeMere. Born and raised in the St. Louis area, Al graduated from McCluer High School in 1968 before continuing his education at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin. His professional career flourished in automotive sales, where he spent many distinguished years at Behlmann's Carnection. Known for his exceptional customer service and sales acumen, Al consistently earned Salesperson of the Month honors before retiring in 2023. Those fortunate enough to know Al will remember his remarkable ability to illuminate even the darkest moments with his effortless wit and warm smile. In his later years, Al discovered a passion for golf that transcended the sport itself. While he took great pleasure in perfecting his swing and putting technique, it was the meaningful friendships formed on the greens that he treasured most. Last November, his family fondly recalls celebrating his birthday at Top Golf, where Al patiently coached his siblings despite their self-proclaimed "ineptitude" for the game—a testament to his kind and generous spirit. Beyond the golf course, Al expressed his creativity as a self-taught graphic artist, developing considerable expertise over the years. He thoughtfully crafted personalized videos to commemorate the birthdays and special occasions of loved ones, leaving behind a collection of digital memories that will be cherished for generations. Al's genuine warmth and authentic character forged connections that extended beyond traditional boundaries—family and friends, colleagues and customers alike were drawn to his magnetic personality and kind heart. His legacy continues through the countless lives he touched and the memories he created. A celebration of Al's remarkable life is being planned. Details will be shared when finalized.
