Catherine CUMMINGS

Catherine Cummings, an exceptional administrative professional, worked for Olin Library at Washington University for 24 years. She was married to Henry Cummings for 54 years. They met in Washington, DC and were married there. Each time we saw them together we were struck by her warmth and uplifting spirit, and by the deep, inspiring bond that they so clearly shared. They moved west and with their two daughters and their many pets made their home in St. Charles, Missouri. They enjoyed history and traveling that included Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Illinois, Pennsylvania, and New York. In their shared faith they were members of Trinity Episcopal Church for decades. He passed away in 2019. She sang in the church choir for several years, served on the vestry numerous times, led the church book club, member of ECW, and helped host nonprofit events. As a long time member of the church she’s instrumental in the planning of its 175th Anniversary in 2011, in concert with Lindenwood University. She enjoyed annual Eagle Days Watching at the Chain of Rocks Bridge for many years. Her other hobbies included attending jazz concerts, cooking, reading non-fiction, yoga and taking long walks. She’s an enthusiastic gardener of English roses in the front of their home and tulips in the back garden plus a vegetable garden. She’s a devoted volunteer to many causes including Alzheimer's Association of Greater Missouri, Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, Humane Society of Missouri, Rescued Racers plus the Democratic Party and The Jimmy & Rosalynn Carter Center. She passed away on January 31, 2025, surrounded by her devoted daughters. She leaves a legacy of kindness and caring we will always treasure. We’re blessed to have her as a kind friend and role model. We are grateful for her love and her faith, and thankful for her life today and always!
