Sandra Kay McMahon Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

Sandra Kay McMahon, 62, of Florissant, Missouri passed away too soon on May 21, 2022 at Christian Northeast Hospital. Her mother and father greeted her at Heaven’s gate. Sandy’s birth was a wonderful Mother’s Day gift. She was born on May 8, 1960 to the late Richard Earl and Norma Jean (Hightower) Strickland in Saint Louis, Missouri. She was number three of “Rich and Norma’s kids,” as Sandy would say. Sandy talked affectionately about her childhood. Special memories included summer trips to her grandparents’ home and living in California as a child and visiting National Parks, like Yosemite and the Grand Canyon. Sandy graduated from McCluer North High School in 1978. She worked many jobs, including Shoney’s, Venture, her dad’s paper route, Bob Evan’s, and Dierbergs. She worked at Dierbergs for 21 years and was planning on retiring in July. While working at Shoney’s as a teenager, she met her future husband of 32 years, Mike, who was the quiet busboy she caught staring at her. They married in 1989 and Sandy’s wish of becoming a mother was fulfilled in 1990 and 1993 with the birth of her children, Michael and Miranda. Her dream of becoming a grandmother came true in 2020 with the birth of Madison. Sweet Sandy was a lady full of love. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend. She loved music and some of her favorite artists included Elton John and Rod Stewart. She would often dance with her children and later Madison. She became a dog lover later in life and enjoyed walks with Libby and playing ball with Lulu. Sandy enjoyed fun times with her beautiful DOE sisters and friends, especially life-time friends Sandy and Teri. Summertime was Sandy’s favorite. She loved planting flowers, suntanning, and swimming. Above all else, she loved hanging out with her best friend and life partner, Mike. Many nights were spent watching football, hockey, Jeopardy, playing card games, and hanging out on the porch together. Mike will miss his Sandy. Sandy was preceded in death by her loving parents, Rich and Norma; half-brother Wallace Strickland; sister-in-law Ilona McMahon; and niece Jennifer Strickland. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend Michael James McMahon; children and best friends Michael (Katie) and Miranda McMahon; and Granddaughter Madison Marie McMahon; her lovely siblings Larry Strickland, Ken (Michelle) Strickland, Laura (Vince) Galati; half-sibling Tim (Barbara) Riepe; brothers-in-law Rick and Dennis (Grace) McMahon; 4 nieces and nephews and 4 great-nieces. A celebration of her life will be held at Florissant Golf Club on May 31, 2022 from 4 to 8 pm. At 6 pm, the family will speak and share memories of Sandy. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation in Sandy’s name to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
