Imogene Laura MEERS
November 16, 1926 - July 30, 2020
In Loving Memory of Imogene Laura Meers Beloved sister, wife, mother, grandmother and loyal friend, Imogene L. Meers passed away peacefully at her home in St. Charles on Thursday July 30, 2020. Imogene is preceded by her husband of 66 years Harlan, and her eldest son Michael (Pam), her brothers, Orville and Gilbert Solto; she is survived by her sisters, Rachel (Earl) and Edith (Herb); her daughter Cathy, her youngest son Bradley (Tracy), nieces Cindy and Lisa (Tom), nephews Evan and Scott, five grandchildren and nine greatgrandchildren. On November 16, 1926, Imogene was born to the late Alma and Theodore Solto in St. Charles Missouri, where she grew up, attended school, married and raised her family. Imogene was a remarkable woman. She grew up during the Depression, yet often remarked that she never felt poor, she was eternally grateful for everything she had. She was a devoted and loving mother, sewing hand-made Halloween costumes and baking birthday cakes from scratch. She instilled in her children a strong work ethic, empathy for others and the knowledge that they were loved unconditionally. Imogene was an avid reader and loved to travel...as evidenced by the many photographs and post cards she kept from trips with her girlfriends before she married, to the family road trips and her post-retirement exersions with her loving husband, PeeWee. Though her aspirations of becoming an architect never materialized, she never stopped learning and trying to improve herself. She maintained a sense of wonder about the world around her, and was curious to know the things she did not know. She maintained relationships over the years with her nieces, nephews and grandchildren and cherished her longtime friends and neighbors. Imogene will be forever remembered for her kind and generous heart, her humor and her wisdom. Although our hearts are heavy, we will celebrate her life and take comfort knowing she is in Heaven and reunited with loved ones. The family would like to thank all of the healthcare professionals from SSM Health at Home, for their wonderful care of Imogene; and also to express our thanks and love to her dear neighbors who have supported us beyond measure during our final journey with Imogene. Due to the pandemic, the funeral service will be a private ceremony for the immediate family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made in honor of Imogene at the Myelodyplastic Syndrome Foundation (mds-foundation.org) or the Siteman Cancer Center.
