Barry Eugene Day,72, of St Charles, Missouri succumbed to cancer in the comfort of his home on April 9, 2020. Barry is survived by his wife Joy of 17 years, his stepdaughter Cindy Johnson and her husband Darron (Fargo, ND) and his stepson Tom Nehrkorn and his wife Stacy (Wildwood,MO). Barry had four granddaughters, Brittany & Natalie Nehrkorn and Erica & Alicia Johnson. Barry was born on August 24, 1947 in Springfield, Missouri to the late Harold and Shirley Day. Barry enlisted in the United States Navy on May 16, 1966. During his 6 years, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, the Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon, and a Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars. After the military, Barry spent his career as an airline mechanic. He worked for Ozark Airlines then TWA and finally retired from American Airlines. He and Joy loved traveling to tropical destinations and spending time with family and friends. A special thank you to the many members of the SSM Hospice team for their loving care and support during his final 3 months. Brenda, his nurse, along with Kristi Collins, Kayla, Mary and several other warm loving women that helped Barry and Joy through this long painful experience. A family memorial service will take place at a later date due to the restrictions in place for the COVID-19 pandemic.
