Stephen Elliott CRAIN

Crain, Stephen Elliott “Steve” “Big Steve”, age 70, formerly of Saint John, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, March 24th, 2024, at 5:25pm in the loving care of his family and Depaul’s dedicated ICU staff. Steve was a loving son, brother, husband, father, uncle, grandfather, and friend to so many people as he had the ability to touch so many lives in his time on this Earth. He served in active military service and received an honorable discharge and National Defense Service Medal after his time in service to the United States of America. He was a fun-loving man who had a zest for music, vocabulary, reading, and playing guitar. Steve could write lyrics and poetry and he loved to collect all sorts, be it Disney movies, coins, specialty beer cans, Saint Louis Cardinals memorabilia, and most definitely CDs once records became obsolete. He had the goofiest sense of humor and a sharp wit, even in his older years. He enjoyed gardening and cracking open a few cold ones with his late wife or close friends on nice days, often grilling up food for his friends, kids, and neighbors. He had this uncanny knack of finding four leaf clovers. He was a man of faith, who believed in God, and in his lifetime, he always helped his loved ones in their times of need. He passed on knowledge and passions to others each interaction he was blessed with. He had patience and compassion and just the biggest heart. He could be overly practical, stubborn, and worry too much sometimes but he was protective and loving and wanted only the best for those he loved. May we find peace in his passing, carry on his memory and any teachings he may have imparted to us, celebrate his life with joy, and remember him always with all our hearts. Preceded in death by his parents, Helen E. Hanners, Raymond Crain, stepfather, Paul D. Hanners, siblings, Linda Horan, Brenda Crain, brother-in-law, Howard Horan, daughter, Melissa “Missy” D. Fairchild, and his late wife, Nancy Jo Schneider-Crain. He is survived by his remaining children, by blood or by bond, Amanda M. Crain, Stephen C. Crain, and his daughter-in-law, Eileen Crain, Kayci Schneider, and Raymond Agoras, as well as his grandchildren, Stephen Alexander Crain, Jacob Crain, Chase Crain, William Crain, Cole Fairchild, and Emily Parker. He was also survived by his remaining siblings, Debra J. McKibbin, Sheila R. Hatcher, and brother-in-law, Mike Hatcher, brother, Stanley Crain, as well as his nieces and nephews and their respective children. The family will host a Celebration of Life in his honor, on May 18th, in lieu of traditional funeral services.
