Sarah Jane SUHRENBROCK

Sarah Jane Suhrenbrock, of Litchfield, Illinois, passed away December 21, surrounded by her husband, daughters, and loving mother-in-law. Her battle with lymphoma came to a very peaceful end. She was born and raised in Staunton, Illinois, one of the famous Links. She was the youngest daughter of Albert and Margaret, and one of nine siblings. She went to St. John’s School of Nursing and worked for 40+ years at St. Francis hospital. She worked in all areas of nursing but excelled as an OB nurse. She was a part of more than 1100 baby deliveries and made each and every one a special event. She was known for her baby baths, swaddling abilities, and affectionately called a “baby hog” to those who knew her best. She took care of so many families and friends throughout her years. Her heart was so big, and she thrived when helping others. She was married to Dave for 43 years, together with him for 50 years. They were an excellent example of a loving marriage. They traveled and cruised the world, with more than 75 cruises together. She was always up for the next adventure, whether it was international travel or a simple float down the Jacks Fork River. They raised three daughters, all of whom claim to have won the parent lottery. She loved any and all time they had together. She was the incredibly proud Nana to her six grandchildren. They were some of her greatest joys. She thrived being a grandma and went out of her way to make each of them feel so loved and so special. She taught them to swim, arranged countless cousin sleepovers, cooked their favorite broccoli cheese soup and chocolate chip cookies, and enjoyed spoiling them every chance she had. Each of them knows that Nana loved them to the moon and back. She is survived by her husband, Dave, whom she lovingly called her "better half." She leaves behind three daughters, Kristen and her partner Joe, Nicole and her husband Mike, and Jenny and her husband Eric. Her cherished grandchildren are Millie, Joey, Alex, Evan, Lucy, and Mack. She is also survived by her siblings: David, Jackie, Sue, Michael, Steve, Mary, Liz, and Rich. She will be deeply missed by her numerous loved ones, including her mother-in-law Glady, the Suhrenbrock family, her St. John's nursing friends, her St. Francis family, her Park Ridge neighbors, her dear cousins, and countless others whose lives she touched. Sarah lived life to the fullest, never missing an opportunity to share her love and her smile, or to lend a helping hand. She was always ready to have some fun and her joy was infectious. She was caring and generous to the very end and made the decision to donate her body to St. Louis University. She had hoped her body would provide answers about the cancer she had, so hopefully this won’t happen to another family. The family is planning to celebrate Sarah’s life with a grand party. This will be planned at a later date. She has requested any memorials be donated to HSHS St. Francis Maternity Department.
