Robert Wayne King

With deep love and remembrance, Robert Wayne King, affectionately known as Wayne, was accepted into the welcoming arms of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior on October 6, 2025, at the age of 90. Born on February 28, 1935, in Albia, Iowa, Wayne attended Ottumwa High School in Ottumwa, Iowa and went on to build a life rooted in hard work, devotion to family, and simple joys. On September 4, 1959, he married the love of his life, Shirley King, with whom he shared 64 beautiful years of marriage before her passing in August 2024. Wayne had a long and respected career in the railroad and trucking industries, where he was known for his dedication and reliability. He was a proud member of the Teamsters union and carried that pride in every job he did. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Shirley M King (Knox). his father, Thomas Arthur King and mother, Ida Mae King (Thorne), and his brother Floyd Melvin King. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by his three sons, Stephen and his wife Debra of Chesapeake, VA, Robert and his wife Christine of O’Fallon, MO and Kevin and his wife Shemalya of Sahuarita, AZ. Wayne was blessed with 14 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought tremendous joy to his life. Wayne had many passions that made up the rhythm of his days. He had a deep love for music and especially enjoyed playing the piano filling his home and gatherings with melodies that reflected his warmth, creativity, and calm spirit. He also read widely and found great joy in listening to his vast library of music, often revisiting favorite songs and artists like pianists Art Tatum, Erroll Garner and singers Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra and Kate Smith. In his quieter moments, Wayne loved watching sports and movies—especially alongside Shirley. It was one of their favorite ways to spend time together, sharing laughter, stories, and companionship over the years. He will be remembered for his steady presence, his deep love for his family, and his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures. Wayne’s legacy lives on in the music he played, the stories he told, the wisdom he shared, and the love he gave so generously. Though he is no longer with us, Wayne’s spirit will forever echo in the lives he touched and the memories he leaves behind.
