Margot Ruth VOLDING

Margot Ruth Volding, 90, of Chesterfield, Missouri, joyfully entered Heaven’s gates on November 30, 2022. Beloved wife of Jerry L. Volding (deceased). Loving mother and mother-in-law of Scott (Lucy) Volding, Kirk (Mary) Volding, Craig (Cheryl) Volding, and Beth (Billy) Dunavant. Dearest grandmother to 11; great-grandmother to 5; dear aunt, cousin, dear friend. Predeceased by daughter Lynne Hurster. Margot was a devoted Christian and proud German woman who was always family focused. She was born in Ames, IA and met the love of her life, Jerry, while attending Iowa State University. They were married for 68 years before he passed away in February. She was a homemaker and volunteer. She spent her time caring for her husband and 5 children. Margot was a member of St. John’s UCC in Weldon Spring and enjoyed attending Bible Study. She often went out of her way to help others. She was an avid letter writer and loved keeping in touch with grandkids living out of town and with the ladies in her “Round Robin” group from her school days in Iowa. She worked as a lifeguard in high school and developed a love for swimming which she naturally transferred to her children as they spent summers in early years at the pool and she taught each one to swim. She took pleasure in gardening, preparing meals, and planning her menus. She had a large collection of cookbooks and spent her spare time watching cooking channels. As a thrifty shopper, she filled the S & H green stamp books for years and made the Dollar Store and Aldi popular well before their time. She loved dogs and once bred a litter of 11 Labrador puppies. Afterwards she kept only one puppy named, “Bull” who became her pride and joy. She loved summer travels with family in their camping trailers and motor homes, but most of all enjoyed the retirement home they had built at the Lake. She spent summer afternoons in the sun and always had a bottle of her “homemade” suntan lotion nearby. She loved to read while sitting in the sun. She even tried her hand at writing a few short stories, one of which was published in Reader’s Digest. She was a fan to the end of the St. Louis Cardinals and could spout the game scores/stats as well as any announcer. She was a genuinely loving and caring person who we were proud to call mom, grandma and great-grandma. She will be deeply missed. A Celebration of Life is planned for Monday, December 26, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel at Friendship Village Chesterfield, 15201 Olive Boulevard, Chesterfield, MO 63017. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Susan G. Komen or Stray Paws Rescue in Margot’s name. The family extends a special thank you to the nurses, aides and staff of Friendship Village – Chesterfield Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation Center and ProMedica Hospice for their compassionate care.
