Kenneth Edward BORGMEYER

Kenneth Edward Borgmeyer went to join his family and creator on Monday, November 11th, 2024. He was born on August 4th, 1932, to Edmund and Agnes Borgmeyer. He was known to everyone as Kenneth, Ken, Boogie, Porky and Sonny. He was the second of three children. Ken grew up, worked, married and raised a family of three children in St. Charles and attended St. Charles Borromeo Church for years. He attended and graduated from St. Peters High School in 1950. He enjoyed playing both baseball and basketball and coaching his two sons later on in the game of basketball. He was an altar server at St. Peters as well as the Carmelite Home (now Mount Carmel) where he also resided the last years. He was a Boy Scout and attended summer camps on several occasions. Later on, as an adult he use to meet at a friend’s farm field in Orchard Farm near the St. Charles County Airport to play softball games called “beer ball”. Ken went to work at Hackmann Lumber right after high school at the original store on Main Street in St. Charles. In his early years at Hackmann he attended The Southwestern Lumbermans Association class in Columbia, Missouri. He eventually moved out to the new store and lumber yard on North 94. He retired from Hackmann at the age of 75 after 57 years. Like many young men of his generation, the draft called Ken to serve his country in the Korean War. From December 1952 to October 1954 in the 25th Infantry Regiment, 35th Infantry Service Company he drove jeeps and trucks throughout his service. Ken made lifelong friends in the Army and kept in touch with fellow soldier and friend, Otto from St. Louis. Ken and Anna Mae would get together for the day about once a year with Otto and Annie. Ken married Anna Mae Mosher on May 31st, 1958, at St. Charles Borromeo. They raised three children: Barbara (6-29-62 to 5-13-2011), Brian, and Thomas (7-24-1967 to 1-10-2021). Anna Mae passed away just 4 days before their 55th anniversary. Ken was involved with Duchesne High School even before he had kids. He kept the clock at basketball games since 1961 and then the football clock when that program started in 1967. He finally gave up the basketball clock after 54 years due to not wanting a mistake with the board to be on him. He said he was just getting to where he could not keep up with the speed of the game. He eventually gave up the football clock as well several years later after 52 years in that position due to mobility issues. He was awarded the Duchesne Alumnus Award in 2002, Certificate of Recognition in 2013 from the St. Louis Metro Football Coaches Association, Spirit of Duchesne Alumni Achievement Award in 2016 and Outstanding Achievement Award in 2022 by the St. Charles County Amateur Sports Hall of Fame. He was a longstanding member of St. Charles Borromeo Parish, Knights of Columbus, and Veterans of Foreign Wars. For many years, Ken made annual retreats at The White House Jesuit Retreat Center. He was preceded in death by parents Edmund and Agnes, sisters Betty and Jackie, his loving wife Anna Mae, daughter Barbara and son Thomas. He is survived by son Brian (wife Tracy), grandchildren Lucy (husband Mitch) and Ben, four great grandchildren, Michael, Clara, Gianna and Agnes, brother-in-law Wayne Mosher, and many beloved nieces and nephews. Ken felt great joy that his grandson Ben had entered Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in August of 2023 to pursue a vocation to the priesthood. We will remember our beloved father and grandfather for his love of family, his appreciation of his parish and school community, and his loyalty to his employer Hackmann Lumber. But his most important gift to us all was his example of faith – a very quiet and humble faith. A special thank you to the staff of Mount Carmel and SSM Hospice who cared for dad in his final years while at Mount Carmel. Memorial gifts may be made to St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, St. Peters Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, Duchesne High School, or Kenrick-Glennon Seminary. There will be a Memorial Mass at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church on Saturday, December 7th, 2024, at 11:30am.
