Janet J. OEHME

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Janet(Thornton) Oehme. Janet passed thru the gates of heaven on June 27th, 2024 at the age of 68. She was born April 6,1956 to John and Helen Thornton in Eau Claire, WI. Janet graduated from Regis High School in 1974 and enlisted in the U.S. Army shortly after. She became a Nurse Recruiter in Minneapolis, MN. It was there that she met her future husband, Blake Oehme, also an Army Recruiter. While enlisted they moved to St. Louis, MO and were married on December 10, 1988. While in active duty, Janet received her Bachelor’s Degree from Columbia University where she graduated summa cum laude. She retired from the military in 1996 after 22 years. After her military career she moved on to an IT career employed by Boeing and later Edward Jones. While at Edward Jones, she received her Master’s Degree in Business Administration. After a successful career in Information Technology with Edward Jones she retired as a limited partner in 2018. Janet was a kind and generous person. She was loved by all who knew her. Above all she loved family. She cherished time spent with her grandson Evan and together they shared many new and exciting adventures. She never missed acknowledging an achievement or event with her nieces and nephews as well as her great nieces and nephews whom she lovingly referred to as her “Greats”. She and Blake welcomed family and friends to their cabin on Spooner Lake and many memories were made. Janet had a passion for baseball. She and Blake were seasons ticket holders for the St. Louis Cardinals. She dedicated a room in her house known as the “Cardinal Room”. Her passion for baseball was passed down from her mother Helen who taught her to love the game. Janet leaves behind her husband Blake Oehme, stepson, Brad (Karen) Oehme, grandson Evan Oehme, siblings Mary Keene Hanson (Dan), Patricia Gabus (Larry), Rose Brooking (Rob), nieces, nephews, as well as many great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents Helen and John Thornton, brother John Thornton, nephew Mark Keene and great niece Miranda Willey. A funeral will be held on August 9th, 2024 at 11:00 at Alternative Funeral and Cremation Services, 2115 Parkway Dr, St. Peter’s, MO 63376. Following the services (1:00pm) a funeral procession will lead to Jefferson Barracks, 2900 Sheridan Rd, St Louis, MO 63125 where military funeral honors will be conducted. Immediately following will be food, drinks, and fellowship at Royale Orleans banquet hall, 2801 Telegraph Rd, St. Louis, MO 63125.
