James "Jim" EBELING

Jim Ebeling, age 71, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family. Jim lived most of his life in St. Louis but grew up in Washington, Missouri, where he cultivated the kindness, humor, and hard work that defined his life. Jim dedicated over 40 years to his career as a nurse with BJC, a profession he took great pride in. His compassion for others extended not only to his patients but also to his colleagues, always finding ways to make them laugh and brighten the workday. Jim had a gift for turning even the most stressful moments into something lighter, making work more fun for everyone around him. Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Shannon, who was his partner in building a beautiful life together. He was a loving and supportive father to Kelly, Julie (Jonathan), and Joe (Mary Beth), and a cherished grandfather to Matthew and Caroline. He was also a wonderful and caring step-father to Jake and Paige. He is survived by his sister, Joyce, who shared many of his treasured family memories. He will be lovingly reunited with his late wife, Mary Ellen, as well as his parents, Arthur and Aurelia, and his brother, John. Jim leaves behind a legacy of love, devotion, and laughter. Jim found great joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved visiting Grand Haven, Michigan with his family, watching the sunsets from the pier overlooking Lake Michigan, and savoring Pronto Pup corn dogs. Even as his health declined, he kept the spirit of those cherished moments alive by watching the live feed of the beach and pier. At home, he and Shannon lovingly cared for the bluebirds in their backyard, tended to their garden, and enjoyed tinkering around the house. Jim was an avid fan of St. Louis sports, especially Cardinals baseball. He was known for his sharp wit, his love of dad jokes (which he found especially hilarious), and his ability to bring warmth and laughter to any gathering. Jim’s presence will be profoundly missed, but his love, laughter, and unwavering kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. A celebration of Jim’s life will be held in April. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation or the Siteman Cancer Center in Jim’s honor.
