KENNETH HOLTKAMP On a warm July afternoon in 1962, "Dot" and Charlie Holtkamp brought home a son. A brother for their three and a half year old, Chuck. They named him Kenneth Raymond Holtkamp. Ken was a somewhat small yet healthy baby with one noticeable trait: Fiery red hair. As a young boy growing up in the late 60’s and early 70’s he enjoyed all the freedoms that those times offered. In a time before video games and computers, outdoor play was the norm. There, he was free to use his imagination and create whatever game he wanted to play. It was also during this time that he began to form the friendships and bonds that would endure into his adult years. By the late 70’s, as he became a teenager, his interests were typical of the times. He wanted to hang out with friends and listen to music. Loud music. Very loud music. Rock & Roll, heavy metal, and KSHE95. An average student and considered an underachiever, school became less important to him and he was ready to go to work. Influenced at an early age by his father and his uncle Gene, Ken developed a strong work ethic. He always did whatever job he was doing the best he could and "gave’em a good 8." His niche was the food service industry, where his co-workers often commented about his work. As Ken aged and matured, he wanted what we all want: love, happiness, and security. His search led him in many directions. Some choices he made were good, some not so good, but ultimately they were his choices. He lived his life as he wanted. After the death of his father, Ken fell into a deep depression. He became estranged from family and friends after hitting rock bottom. It appeared that he was again headed in the right direction. Tragically he was taken from us before we could see if he found what he was looking for in life. Although Ken is gone, he will always remain in our hearts and forever in our thoughts. A Celebration of Life will be held for Ken on Tuesday, August 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. with a time of sharing at 3:30 pm.
