Eunice Margaret WALKER

Eunice Margaret Duncombe Walker, 86, of O’fallon, passed away Friday, September 30, 2016, at Lewis and Clark Healthcare facilities in St. Charles, after a 12-year progressive battle with Alzheimers. “Necy” was born August 24, 1930, in Kent, England. She was united in marriage to Carl Smith Walker on May 28, 1958 at Drury Stone Chapel in Springfield, Missouri, and shared 54 years of marriage. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Carl Walker III; her father, Charles H.E. Duncombe; her mother, Alice Davis Duncombe; her sisters-in-law Laura Karr Duncombe and Joanna Walker Nelson; and her daughter-in-law, Beth Campbell Walker. Eunice is survived by three sons, Kingsley (Glenda) Walker, O’fallon; Charlton Walker, Eudora, KS; Kristian (Shannon) Walker, Dillsburg, PA; four granddaughters and four grandsons, Branton Walker and wife Shelly, Kourtney Owens and husband Michael, Madison Curtis and husband Christopher, Kolby Walker and wife Alli, Jordan Walker and wife Chelsea, Kameron Walker, Aria Walker, and Elise Walker. Eunice also leaves 14 great-grandchildren, Efton, Eliza, Elias, Ester, Ezrah, Easton, and Eleanor Owens; Peyton and Camden Walker; Caiden and Adelaide Walker; and Shea, Liam, and Aiden Curtis. Being a “Mom” and “Nana” was one of her greatest joys. Eunice’s life was an amazing story of the provision and grace of God, and played out like a Hallmark movie. As a young English schoolgirl, she lived through the World War II Nazi blitzkrieg bombings of London and worked in an orphanage that her father founded in the coastal town of Fleetwood. Eventually, after working in a bank in London with her best friend Pauline, she crossed the Atlantic to come to Bible school, raising her own fare and traveling to America on the fastest ocean liner in the world, the S.S. United States. Over the course of her life, she was secretary to Commander A Johnson in the United States Navy in Washington D.C. in the early 1950’s, and worked in various capacities at Assemblies of God Headquarters in Springfield while in college, becoming secretary to General Superintendent, Wesley Steelberg for a period of time. She was a pastor’s wife, active and retired for 58 years, and an ordained minister of the Assemblies of God since 1986. She taught elementary music for 15 years in the USD 249 Frontenac School District, developing the Spring and Christmas children’s music programs into one of the largest attended school district gatherings, filling the 1,600 seat Memorial Auditorium. Necy was president of the Lincoln Elementary School P.T.A. from 1966-1969, and she regularly spoke at women's civic meetings and other organizations. One of the joys of her life was that she taught hundreds of students piano, organ, and accordion in private lessons in her home. She had a Bachelor of Arts degree from Central Bible College, Springfield, MO, a Bachelor of Arts from Pittsburg State University, Pittsburg, KS, and two Masters degrees in Music Composition and Organ. Eunice was a chaplain at Mt. Carmel Medical Center, Pittsburg, KS, and did weekly meetings at the Sunset Manor Nursing Home, Frontenac, KS, for more than 25 years. Whether it was teaching in the classroom, playing organ or piano in a church service, or playing and singing along with The Sound of Music on television, she loved music in it’s many forms and she loved to share it. Eunice lived a blessed life, was dearly loved and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 8, 2016 at 1:00 P.M with visitation at Noon at Life Gate International Church, 7575 Veteran's Memorial Parkway, St. Peters, MO 63376. In lieu of flowers, family and friends wishing to honor Eunice's memory may contribute to the Church.
