Donna CREGAN

Donna "Yaya" Cregan passed away December 09, 2018 at the age of 69, surrounded by her daughters and dearest loved ones. She left this world armed with kisses from her grandchildren, whom she lovingly called her "Sugar Bears:" grandsons Brenden (5) and Henry (4) from daughter Kathleen Patrick and son-in-law Christopher Patrick, as well as granddaughter Maxine (4) from daughter Maureen Cognasso and David Stavron. She is now joined with her husband in Heaven, Lieutenant Daniel H. Cregan of the St. Louis Police Department and her parents Dorcie and Fred Voss Sr. She fought the good fight. She received a double lung transplant in June after waiting nearly two months inpatient at Barnes Hospital in the hopes of overcoming Pulmonary Fibrosis. During the transplant, it was discovered that her old lungs, as well as lymph nodes in her chest were also riddled with stage 4 cancer, as it had gone undetected until the transplant surgery. Although she received the selfless gift of new healthy lungs, the cancer was still present. After multiple rounds of chemo, very positive moments where we all thought she was going to miraculously beat the cancer, it eventually grew so rapidly it overtook her new healthy lungs and overtook her last breaths. As a woman of great faith, she worked for twenty five years for the Archdiocese of St. Louis, however her greatest work has been as a grandmother. She loved to dance, spoil those grand babies, listen to MoTown, quality time with her very dear friends, anchovy Imos pizza, to read, she loved History and the beach. Despite over 120 days in the hospital from March to December, she found time to snuggle, laugh, sing and read to her grandchildren. In October, when she was at her strongest, she was able to walk with her grandsons for the last time on her favorite beach in Gulf Shores, Alabama. She will be dearly missed by so many that love Yaya, and adopted her as their own. Her strength lives on in the eyes and hearts of the grandkids. Yaya has requested a very private ceremony.
