Donna Jean BERLEKAMP

Donna Jean Berlekamp (Horstmeier), 84, of St. Peters passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, October 30, 2023. She is now at peace and enjoying the company and sight of her loving family, including her Father, Mother, Brother and husband, in Heaven. She was born to the late Edwin and Ellen (Jungermann) Horstmeier on December 17, 1938 in St. Charles (Harvester), Missouri. She was married to Vernon Berlekamp, who preceded her in death in 1999. In her early years, Donna worked for Farm Bureau Insurance, then the St. Charles County Courthouse. She was also an advocate for the Women’s Republican Group and would work the polls during every Election Day. She did her part by sternly convincing anyone who questioned the process that it is not only their right, but their duty, to vote. She was a member of Ladies Aid at Zion Lutheran Church of Harvester and also a member of the Red Hat Society. When she was able, Donna enjoyed bowling, playing cards with family and friends, cutting wood, making apple butter, canning vegetables, trips to a casino and any chance she had to travel, she was ready to go. Even though Donna was a ‘laid-back’ and quiet soul, she loved her family and friends fiercely and could warm a person’s soul with just a giggle. Donna is survived by her nephew, Darren Horstmeier (Stephanie); niece, Dawn Horstmeier Green (Fred) all of Fulton, Mo.; sister-in-law, Darleen Gutermuth (Ray) of St. Charles; brother-in-law, Maurice Berlekamp of St. Louis; niece, Kim Draves (Brian) of Twin Falls, Idaho; niece, Sherry Seigler (Rich) of Winfield; nephew, Jeff Berlekamp (Denise) of St. Louis, and her cousin/angel on earth, who cared for her better than anyone could have ever asked for, Kelly Bopp. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Vernon Berlekamp, and her brother, Gary Horstmeier. Her entire family would like to express their extreme gratitude to all in the group at Visiting Angels and Community Loving Care Hospice that helped care for Donna. There will be a Visitation at Zion Lutheran Church - Harvester on Wednesday, November 8th, 2023, from 9:30 - 11:00 am, with a Service at 11:00am. We will then go in procession to St. Charles Memorial Gardens for a 12:30pm Committal Service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations made to Zion Lutheran Cemetery Fund, via Zion Lutheran Church Harvester.
