Darryl Francis GETTINGER

Darryl Francis Gettinger, age 65, passed away May 13, 2025, in the wee hours of the morning. He was always so careful not to wake his wife, and this day was no exception, although she was right there by his bedside. Darryl is survived by his wife of 44 years, Pam (Lemons) Gettinger, his son, Chase (Chrissie) Gettinger, his daughter Melanie (Darin) Gettinger Brandt, son-in-law John Shank, his grandchildren, Zaden, Gunner, Steel, Mila, Jameson, Alexander, Hunter, Chloe, Jeremy, and Kyle. His daughter, Lacey Gettinger Shank, went to be with the Lord almost four years ago and she, along with her two grandmothers, Joyce Gettinger and Salle Cushing Richardson, were there to welcome him into their tribe of angels. He is in good hands! Darryl is also survived by his two “older” brothers, Lee and Wayne, his beautiful younger sister Amy Attias, and nieces and nephews (Matt, Tona, Travis, Andrea, Jeffrey, Catie, Amanda, Crystal, Luke, Sam & Emily), a great-grandson and a few great-nieces and nephews. Finally, Darryl was a friend to many with some of his friendships going back 50+ years! Darryl will live on through the memories he created with those who loved him and the passions he pursued with unwavering spirit. May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him. Darryl is pre-deceased by his parents, Glenn Gettinger and Joyce Dougan Gettinger. Darryl loved being outdoors – his goal in life was to be able to move to the family farm in Williamsburg. He and Pam made that happen in 2022. He could look out the front door and see the lake, or the deer he so lovingly and consistently fed in the front yard area. He cleared an area down by the lake and put in a fishing area this past summer. He knows there are still some catfish to be caught! But he usually caught blue gill and bass. He fed the fish too! He would buy loaves of bread to break up and toss in the lake to watch them come to the surface and eat! But, with that being said, when it came time to deer hunting or turkey hunting, or serious fishing, he had a great track record and MANY trophies to prove it. Pam lost her battle with wall décor. Darryl and Pam pitched horseshoes and were members of the New Melle Horseshoe Club, the Quailridge Horseshoe Club, and the National Horseshoe Pitching Association for 12 years. Darryl was an instrumental worker at any event the club had – tournaments and leagues. Darryl was strong and was not afraid to get his hands dirty in the clay! He invented a mechanical device to help “cut up” the hard, dry clay used in the horseshoe pits. We had a close group of friends there, but he was loved by many at the club. Darryl worked his entire life for his family business, Midwest Oil, from 16 yrs old until their company was forced out of business by big company competition. Grandfather, Dad, Lee, Wayne, Darryl, Chase. It was a tough business, they were dedicated to it, and they worked their behinds off. Darryl and Pam did almost everything together. They raised Chase and Lacey, by far their best and proudest accomplishments. Lake of the Ozarks was a second home for many years at Grandma Alpha’s houses. They owned and rode horses. They lived in the same home for 40 years, grew up with the same neighbors (Ruthie & Denny, Blanche & Joe, Father Time, if you know you know). They loved and pitched horseshoes together and continued through life with a deep love for their families and friends. Darryl was raised in the Catholic faith. Years later, in 2016, he accepted Christ Jesus as his Lord and Savior. God blessed him with a second chance in life by granting us the miracle we prayed for when he was hospitalized in 2018. You will not find any better than Darryl Francis Gettinger. Truly, he is one of kind. He never lost his love for the outdoors, whether he was fishing from the bank on the farm lake, or in his little boat, or out on the huge Lake of the Ozarks. He loved hunting at the farm and in Windsor Valley, had fun conversing with the hoot owls (his favorite birds to talk to). He did his share of bull frog hunting, and he talked to them as well. Or just simply listening for turkeys to gobble, or whippoorwills to call in the early morning and just before dark. He loved seeing those beautiful sunrises and sunsets at the farm - with his last earthly sunset being one of incredible peace.
