Dale REECE

Dale Reece, age 76, passed away peacefully in his home Sunday, October 12, 2014, in St. Charles Missouri, surrounded by his loving family. Dale was born December 2, 1937, the son of Irving (Jack) Clifford Reece and Della Loretta (Baker) Reece. Dale grew up in Thayer, Kansas, where he completed high school. He then earned an associate’s degree from Chanute Junior College and then went on to earn a Bachelor of Science Degree from Kansas State College of Pittsburg. Dale’s interests during these years included basketball, softball, singing and performing in musicals. He was a member of the Phi Lambda Chi fraternity at Kansas State. In 1961 Dale left his short teaching career in Kincaid, Kansas, married Rosetta Ellis and enlisted in the United States Navy. From 1961 to 1967, Dale proudly served his country. He completed Officer Candidate School in Newport, Rhode Island in 1961. Over the term of his enlistment, and during the Vietnam War, Dale served on the USS Fort Marion and completed several tours of duty around the world. During his last 3 years, he also taught ROTC at Oregon State University. In 1967, Dale left active naval service and moved to St. Louis, Missouri. He began a civilian career with ALMSA, a Department of the Army unit. While he started as a computer specialist, he performed several roles over the span of 30 years. His last title was that of Congressional Staff Officer. During the period between 1968 and 1989, Dale also served in the Naval Reserves. He retired as a Captain and served as the Commanding Officer of his unit. He received several commendations for his accomplishments and leadership. Throughout his life, Dale also showed his patriotism by flying an American flag at his home. Dale was a member of Good Shepherd United Church of Christ, located in St. Charles, Missouri for over 41 years. For much of that time he was also a member of the Good Shepherd Choir. In addition to his regular role in the choir, Dale was also known for his beautiful tenor solos, most notably, “O Holy Night”, and “How Great Thou Art”. At different times in his life, Dale was a member of the Eagles Nest Association of St. Louis, Good Shepherd Church Maytags, American Legion Post 312, and the Reserve Officers Association. Dale also enjoyed playing cards with Rosetta and watching Cardinals and Rams games with his family. Dale is survived by Rosetta, the mother of his four children and companion for more than 50 years. He is also survived by his siblings Dolores Young, Betty (Ed) Huffman, Merle (Karen) Reece, and Donna (Don) Heath, and also by many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews. Dale was also survived by his children Carleen (Bob) Monroe of Green Bay, WI, Sherry (Mark) Martinez of Dardenne Prairie, MO, Patrick Reece of Moscow Mills, MO, and Jennifer (John) Sheehan of St. Peters , MO. He was the dearest grandfather to Nicole Martinez, Jacob and Kyle Monroe, Brandan, Zachary, Ava and Conner Sheehan, Dalton, Emily, and Elizabeth Reece, Stacey Attinger, Gracie McIver, and Mark Brian Martinez. He was also the great grandfather to Julie and Brendan Attinger. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Good Shepherd Church in St. Charles. A memorial service for Dale will be held Sunday, October 19, 2014 at 3:00 P.M at Good Shepherd United Church, 3115 Elm Street, St. Charles, MO 63301
