Charles John Brookshier May 3, 1928 – April 5, 2015 Charles Brookshier was born to Maurice and Mabel Brookshier on May 3, 1928 in Hamburg, Iowa completing the family that also included his older sister, Elaine (Fisher, deceased). Charles married Rosalie Guenther on January 14, 1949 and they had three children, Mark, Becky, and Carl. This year, Charles and Rosalie celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary surrounded by their family. Charles’ love for his family shone through everything he did. From weekends at the Lake House, to long family vacations, to playing card games, Charles loved to spend time with his family. He worked very hard to support his family and worked as a salesman for many years until he and Rosalie bought the Bob Keller Battery Warehouse in 1976. Together with their sons, Mark and Carl they operated the business very successfully until they sold it in 2007. Charles was not good at sitting still and loved to tinker in his work shop. Not surprisingly he loved to make things for his family. If someone had a request, he would figure out a way to make it. When a grandchild wanted a car seat for a treasured stuffed monkey, he made it, complete with safety belt. Charles loved to laugh almost as much as he loved pie. Whenever asked what pie was his favorite, he would quip “hot or cold!” He loved jokes and the cornier the better. To the end, Charles shared his wealth of poetry and songs to (usually) willing audiences. Faith was very important to Charles. He and Rosalie have always been church members wherever they lived. At Faith United Methodist Church he enjoyed Bible Study classes, singing in the choir, and Fifty Fivers club. Charles showed his faith by volunteering at their church, FISH, and other organizations. Charles passed away just before sunrise on Easter morning. Soon after, birds chirped and the church bells rang as he was welcomed into heaven. Charles is survived by his wife, Rosalie, children, Mark, Becky Helton (Wayne), and Carl (Paula), grandchildren Tom Helton (Annette), Carol Klapat (Jed), Heather Helton, and Chris Brookshier and great grandchildren Olivia Helton and Jack Klapat. A Memorial service will be held at Faith United Methodist Church in St. Charles, MO on Friday, April 10, 2015 at 10:00 am. Visitors may arrive between 9:00 am and 10:00 am to share stories and offer condolences. His final resting place will be at Mount Olive Cemetery in Hamburg, IA. Memorials may be made to Faith United Methodist Church or FISH.
