Beulah L. DAUGHERTY

Beulah L. Daugherty, age 95, of St. Louis, MO died Monday, June 24th, 2024. Daugherty, Beulah (Bea) was born to Martin and Hulda Luedders on April 14, 1929, and baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Ludell, Kansas. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School in Ludell, and Atwood Community High School, Atwood, Kansas, graduating in 1947. Bea served as the secretary and bookkeeper at Atwood Community High School from the fall of 1947 until January 1951. She applied for and became the secretary to the academic dean at Concordia Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska (now Concordia University). She later became the cashier and assistant to the bookkeeper, and advanced to the head bookkeeper/accountant. When a supervisory secretary was needed at the Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod’s Board for Higher Education, she was asked to come to St Louis to work. She moved to St Louis in April 1954 to begin that job, and later advanced to the Synod’s presidential offices. Bea was married to Robert Daugherty on August 20, 1960, and divorced in December 1986. Her son was born May 6, 1962. After a 4 year break and stay at home mom, in February 1966 she began working for the Federal Reserve Bank of St Louis, first as a secretary and later became a bank examiner in the Consumer Affairs division in 1987 until she retired in November 1994. Bea was a member of several Lutheran churches but was a member of Chapel of the Cross Lutheran, St Louis and a member of the Choral Singers choir for the last 40+ years. She was a member of the Mary-Martha Guild (LWML), served on Chapel’s Stewardship Committee, and active in St. Louis North Zone. Bea was preceeded in death by her parents, Martin and Hulda Luedders, her sister Irene and husband Clifton Holste, her sister VanDella and husband Louis Bockelman, and her niece Wendy (Luedders) Villers. She is survived by her son Mark Daugherty and granddaughter Ashley Daugherty, brothers LeRoy (Carole) Luedders and Larry (Wanda) Luedders, 12 nephews and nieces and their families, grandchildren Heather (Stephen) Carson, Jennifer Walkenhorst, Sean Dempewolf, and 11 great-grandchildren. A memorial celebration of her life will be held at Chapel of the Cross Lutheran, 11645 Benham Rd, St Louis, Mo 63136 at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, July 3, 2024. Interment at a later date will be in Atwood, Kansas. Rather than flowers, a memorial gift would be appreciated to The Lutheran Church – Missouri Synod, Lutheran Family and Children’s Services, or the charity of the donor’s choice.
