Wilbert William GILMORE

Wilbert William Gilmore, age 82, of St. Charles, MO, died January 08, 2015 at Frontier Nursing Home in St. Charles, MO surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 05, 1932; the son of Frank M. and Florence Gilmore Nee: Roark. Mr. Gilmore worked for Kirkwood Contractors until his retirement in 1994, and was a Co-Ed Explorer Scouts Leader. He met and later married Joanne Poese on September 06, 1958 in Pattonville, MO. He is preceded in death by his loving parents, Frank and Florence. His loving siblings, Monroe and Ronnie Gilmore, Mary Jaeger and Berniece Skinner. Loving husband of Joanne. Loving father and father in law of Lisa Renee Smith, Linda Kay and Peter Catalano and Diane Bingaman. Loving brother and brother in law of Shirley Tuepker, Shelby Morgan, Sharon and Mike Stapleton and Kay and Carl Hardman. Loving grandfather to Justin, Amanda, Jared, Amy, Maggie and Cody and loving great grandfather of Anna. Though always busy with his job and family, Mr. Gilmore was relentless in his support of anyone who needed a hand. Though not a regular church-going fellow, he was a shining example that it’s better to give than to receive. He had a fluorescently green thumb, and an ability to make anyone laugh with a joke or a smart comment. Children adored him, despite him relentlessly “torturing” them with indian-burns, dead legs, and tickling. He was extremely expressive - - family members never wanted to experience “the look”. But his smile lit up a room. Mr. Gilmore was a great teacher and role model to family, co-workers and friends. He also was a master of using humor to disarm any situation. When first meeting someone, he’d often jump in with a pleasant “Well that’s the sorriest looking shirt I ever saw”. Amazing that this novel approach actually gained him friends. But it did. John Steinbeck once said “It seems to me that if you or I must choose between two courses of thought or action, we should remember our dying and try to live so that our death brings no pleasure to the world.” Mr. Gilmore clearly heeded that advice. The sadness at his recent departure is impossible to measure.
