Jariel Ivan Bay - Jerry Bay - Peeps September 11, 1937 - October 28, 2022 Jariel Ivan Bay (official), friends called him Jerry Bay, family called him Peeps. If it were up to him, we wouldn’t be writing this. We’d bury him in the backyard, put a stone on his head and keep cashing his checks - as much as he liked doing the right thing. Peeps was a good man who leaves a legacy behind in a great family, with lots of memories and traditions. His spirit is carried on by his wife Donna Bay, children Teri Sallee (Mike) and Steve Bay, grandchildren Cassandra Goeden (Mike), Melisa Bay (Joe), Chris Bay (Holly), and great-grand children Kendra, Jordan, Morgan, Chris, Brooklyn, Jaxson and Jolie - along with an extended family of relations and friends from every walk of life. Peeps loved to tell stories. If you had 5 minutes, he’d tell you a 15 minute story. If you didn’t have 5 minutes, well then, you’d probably get the 30 minute version. You could be sure 50% of every story was true, you just didn’t know which 50%. He was the original ‘Jerry-rig’ of repairs. Duct tape and WD-40 could fix anything. And if that didn’t work, maybe a hot cup of tea would. He was a blast. Each place he lived (which was a few) had some kind of water to play in. Outdoor pools, indoor pools, hot tubs, lake houses or ocean trips. He had all the best toys. Boats, bikes, waver runners, motorcycles (Ninjas to Harleys to Can-Ams), houseboats, sail boats, scooters, all the coolest cars (Corvette, Cadillac, Porsche, 68 Camaro, Convertibles) and he’d share them with you in a heartbeat, he just wanted everyone to have a good time. He taught all of us the important lessons, like you can’t ride a motorcycle without pants. Taught us how to drive. A stick. On a hill. Full stop. Turn around and say ... “don’t end up in the ditch now”. How to water ski. Or how to sail, by taking you to the middle of a lake and then jumping in and swimming to shore. He’d give you the shirt off his back, which is probably why he rarely had one on in the summer. He’d give a hitch hiker a ride only to have his van break down before they got to the next exit - sorry buddy, better luck next time. He was always fighting for the ‘little guy’. All the way back when he helped bring the Union to McDonnell Douglas through being a Teamster for 25+ years. Besides having his transportation career, he invented the side hustle. Examples of said side hustles include but are not limited to: owning an auto parts store, a gas station, an ice cream shop, a bar, multiple car lots, Cycle Cola soda company, and likely others we are unaware of. In his later years, neighbors would often see him buzzing around the neighborhood on a wave runner way too fast for someone in their 70’s/80’s or on motorcycle popping wheelies. He’d never say good bye, it was always ... “bye-now”.
